3 Ways to Find Your Next Great Adventure
Do you have an adventure inside you? An urge or yearning which might have been hidden for years only to bubble up in distant reminders of what you want to pursue? The reality is we all have multiple adventure awaiting us. Good and meaningful work which gives us purpose, fills our soul, and reminds us why life is good.
The problem is we have let life, expectations, and distractions get in the way of pursuing our great adventure. We have let the noise of the world slowly seep into our lives and tell us who we should be. These messages cause us to spend our evenings scrolling Facebook feeds, watching Netflix, or surfing the internet. Activities which are not necessarily bad in themselves, but keep us from pursuing our own unique adventure.
Find Your Adventure
Today is the day you need to unplug your life and begin to pursue your adventure in order to stop surviving life and live a Thrival Life. A life lived with all the fervor and gusto you can manage and not defined by any other message. The pathway to your own adventure may take some time to discover. But if you never begin the process you will never know what you can find. To begin your adventure today, start by designing a plan around the following three steps.
Your Great Work
What is the great work you want to accomplish? For most of you, it probably will not take long to write this down. The adventure has been in your heart or mind for years, but you have used every excuse in the book to convince yourself to leave it alone. Take your great work out of its hiding place, dust it off, and begin the process of giving it new life.
Your great work doesn’t have to be a drastic change like moving to Africa to dig wells or quitting your job. It could simply be helping at the local food bank, building chairs out of Aspen trees, helping at your kids school, or writing the next great novel. Start small and slowly give legs to your adventure. Life is too short to bury our adventures and miss out on the good life.
The only way you will even begin to achieve or reach your adventure is going to be by removing the distractions in your life. You have to realize the amount of distractions which are in your life. From media, hobbies, work, activities, children’s activities, community events, internet, social media, and on and on it goes. You can spend your days completely distracted.
The problem is these distractions are probably the number one reason why you do not pursue your adventure. What can you do right now to eliminate the distractions in your life. Cut back on social media, Netflix, sports, or aimless thinking. Whatever it might be, think clearly about those distractions which do not add any value to your adventure. Take the time to eliminate those distractions which are keeping you from pursuing or maintaining your meaningful work.
Claim Your Reward
The last action step you can take to find your adventure is to claim your reward. What this means is the road from moving from your distraction to your great work can be a challenging transition. In order to motivate yourself, give yourself a reward for either a milestone step or completing the process. This could be watching a movie after a small milestone. A nice meal with the family or new laptop after some major completion steps.
The point is to keep you motivated in the process. It is easy to get discouraged when you are pursuing your own adventure. But the world needs your adventure, they need the meaningful work you have to give. Do whatever it takes to stay focused on your adventure.
Why keep living life in survival mode when you can life a truly thriving life. Do whatever it takes to find your next great adventure and eliminate all the obstacles which are keeping you from living a life of meaningful work.
