When you get a great idea, you might rush out of the gate only to fall flat on your face. One of main reasons this happens is you are attempting to run with heavy weights wrapped around your legs. If you do not attempt to identify the obstacles you face in life and engage them appropriately, they will always find a way to drag you down.
We all have hills to climb during our lives. Those obstacles placed in front of us we neither asked for, nor desired, in our lives. But never the less, they are present and we must engage with on a daily basis. These obstacles generally leave us asking the question “What now?”
We have major and minor obstacles we deal with throughout our lives. The minor obstacles are usually daily. The alarm not going off, getting stuck in traffic, missing a deadline at work, or forgetting an appointment. Even though they are minor they can still be frustrating, but usually only temporarily.
Then there are the major obstacles in life; the call from the doctor, the broken relationship, the unexpected death, or the pain which will not go away. These are overwhelmingly frustrating since we do not know how to deal with them, we do not know when or if they will go away, and our expected pathway in life has suddenly taken an unexpected turn.
Make a Choice
It is at this point we have to make a major decision in our lives. When we are faced with obstacles we have no control over, then we have to decide how we are going to respond to this obstacle.
This has probably been the most difficult decision I have had to make in my life. But it also was not just one decision. It is a daily decision I make every morning when I get out of bed as to how I will face the day. I battle my pain every day and no longer have memories of living a life without pain. I cannot sit idly by and wait for some miracle to happen, I need to be the miracle I want to see.
Throughout this process I have had several milestone moments where I had to decide how I would live my life or respond to my pain. But it requires me to press down hard every morning and realize I do have an awesome life and can make a difference for others when I get out of bed.
There are three main areas you need to understand about the challenges you face in your own life:
The first step is to identify those obstacles in your life. Those areas of challenge which keep popping up and are limiting you from moving forward effectively. You need to take the time to understand these obstacles and identify them appropriately.
Understand the Impact of Obstacles
Then you must understand the impact these obstacles have on every part of your life. How is the obstacle effecting your life, your relationships, or your career? How is this obstacle making your feel emotionally, mentally, and physically. It is extremely important to understand how this obstacle is limiting you in every aspect of your life.
Engage them appropriately
The last part is engage the obstacle appropriately. This means after understanding the impact of these obstacles you will ideally begin moving toward eliminating them. But you cannot remove all the obstacles in your life, so how can you engage them effectively and efficiently.
