How to Properly Respond to a Divergent Path?
Life doesn’t always turn out as planned, when we find ourselves on a divergent path. At times, our lives will take a divergent path we never planned. The best, most well laid out, and detailed plans are interrupted by changes in life. Changes which demand our full attention. These divergent paths are neither planned nor expected, but cannot be ignored. We must deal with them appropriately in order to keep moving forward in life.
If you find yourself either temporarily or more permanently on a divergent path, then take the time to understand how you can keep moving forward appropriately. What you want to avoid most is simply standing still and not moving. Letting the unknown path in front of you keep you from progress. If you find yourself on a divergent path them don’t be afraid of taking one or all three of the following steps.
There are times where we need to run from the path before us when we do have a choice. But there are also times where we have no other choice but to engage the divergent path before us. This is difficult as every part of our being is telling us this isn’t reality. There is something more we can do or another path to follow. But when divorce, death, pain, job loss, or illness are placed in front of us we must engage the path properly. Running or stopping should never be an option.
Engaging your divergent path means taking a complete look at the effects this new path are having on your health, relationships, work, and life. Then carefully understanding how you can keep moving forward on this new path without being completely derailed. This process takes time and patience, but can offer you a new view on life instead of being stuck in a place you never intended to be.
If you can’t completely understand how to engage your divergent path, then you may just need to take a step forward. Remember the last thing you want to do is to be stuck. To stay in one place without making progress towards your goals and ultimate life. If you find yourself on a divergent path, then there may be days you just need to take a step forward.
While you may have no idea where the step is going to take you, the idea is to still make progress. Your step may be just getting up in the morning, going to the gym, talking to that friend or co-worker, or putting a little more effort into your content or creation. You don’t have to make major leaps, just the small steps which can eventually lead up to the bigger gains.
One of the biggest issues of traveling the divergent path is that is never apart of the plan. You wanted to do something different, you expected something better, or wanted to experience another pathway. What you have to realize is just because your pathway is different does not mean your path is bad, its just different!
Too many times the divergent path is associated with something negative. A missed opportunity, failed goals, or missed expectations. If traveling a divergent, path 9 times out of 10 it is not your fault. You are not in this place because of anything specific you did. But that doesn’t mean the pathway is bad. Take the path for what it is and ensure you are making the most of the opportunities given to you on the divergent path. Go through the process of a slight mind-shift to take the attitude that this path is just another adventure, not a prison sentence. You never know what you might find at the end of unexpected adventures.
If we let our placement on the divergent path dictate our decisions and way of life, we have confined ourselves to live our lives in survival mode. But regardless of what path you are currently traveling, there can always be more to our lives if we attempt to take back control of our lives. Stop enough today to take a breath and figure out how you can effectively travel the divergent path to live the Thrival Life!
