Are You Looking For Harmony Among the Chaos of Life?
Does your life feel out of harmony, like a symphony warming up before a show? You know where all the different instruments are blaring out their own melody in an attempt to get in tune. For me the sound is akin to nails running down a chalkboard. I get the reason behind the warm-up, but it does not always produce the prettiest noise.
The good thing about the warm up at a symphony is you know that soon everyone will be on the same page of music. Producing a beautiful melody which is truly magical. The problem with our lives, is that we don’t know if, or when, all our different “instruments” are going to align. We know we are capable of such harmony. But have no idea how to get everything aligned to produce anything beautiful.
While we may live in chaos for long periods of time. This is not the healthiest place for us to live out our lives. Yet, many of us have lived in these places for so long we don’t know how to exists outside this state. In order to begin the process of moving into harmony there are a few specific tasks you can take on in order to thrive.
Find Your Song
The first way to find harmony is to simply find your song. Many people are floundering from shiny object to shiny object in a cacophony of chaotic music simply because they have no idea what song to play. So, they play whichever tune is the most convenient.
If you want to find harmony then it will take you finding a specific song to play. This is your song which represents your likes, desires, and pursuits. In knowing your song, you no longer get distracted by other tunes. You know what you need to play and which instruments best help in achieving this tune. If you never take the time to find your own specific song, you will always be playing someone else’s tune.
Eliminate the Chaos
Once you know what song you need to be playing at this point in your life, then it becomes easier to eliminate the chaos surrounding you. When you know your song you can more easily identify those events, tasks, or projects which are not contributing to your harmony. Once you can readily discover those distractions then it becomes easier to eliminate them.
Eliminating the chaos may be more difficult than imagined. Many of these distractions have been so ingrained in your life you do not even realize how distracting they have become. Watching television, playing on your phone, scrolling your Facebook feed, surfing the internet, or regular meetings with friends. While individually there is nothing wrong with these activities. The question you have to ask is what are these activities keeping you from? Is there a better more productive way to spend your time?
Shut Out the Noise
The last step you can take to find your harmony is to shut out the noise. No matter how diligent you are in keeping your harmony, there will always be different tunes competing for your attention. The world is noisy. With marketers, advertisements, friends, and family all attempting to tell you what is best for you. If you don’t find a process to shut out this noise it will very easily come back and distract you from your song.
To shut out the noise ensure you are very careful with how you spend your time and the messages you are listening to. If there are any messages which are not in line with your song, then tune them out. They are nothing but a distraction and will eventually throw your life out of harmony.
In the world of constant changes and distractions ensure you are doing everything possible to keep your life in harmony. For if you don’t do it, who will?
