Start Recognizing Stressful Problems
Most people, when asked, longed to pursue an extraordinary life. This is a desire on all of our hearts. But ask the question about how you get there and this is the point where you overlook many of the problems staring you in the face.
This message gets lost in the fact you have a giant weight on your back. You don’t know how it got there, don’t know how to get rid of it, and is keeping you from the life you want to live. It is a seemingly invisible obstacles which comes in the form of stresses in your life you do not even recognize are in front of you.
You do not have to look, or read, very far to realize our society is very challenged. You live in an age where you are attempting to drink out of a firehouse when it comes to information. This constant barrage is having deep seeded effects on your life which you do not even recognize. But until you recognize the problem you will be helpless to make any attempt to correct the issue.
Although this stresses come in many ways and forms, the following are three specific areas to take note. If you can begin to see the anxiety built up in these areas, then it may become easier to see stress points in others areas as well.
Life exists now in the age of 24-hour news, political pundits, opinions, commentaries, and “fake news”. You are overwhelmed with more information that you could possible need or process. The reality is most of this information is worthless to you personally. Yet you attach yourself to it like your life depends upon it. The end result is you get worked up, angry, stressed, and distracted over problems you neither can solve nor have any control over.
But the ramifications of constantly being glued to the news, listening to it in passing, or even hearing it from friends or family can be costly. You need to ask yourself why you are watching the news. Then decide what topics are really important (weather, sports, or politics) and begin to trim down your intake. You can then take an even more precise cut to find out if you can only look at your sports team, local politics, or emergency situations. If any part of the news is causing you stress, anger, or anxiety then cut it out of your daily routine. The effects are not worth the unnecessary emotions you may be experiencing.
Ah, social media, for generations we survived without this product. We were simply social. But with the rise of social media over the past decade it has caused some serious side-effects in our society. We are distracted, we feel inadequate because of comparing our lives to everyone we see online, and we are exposed to a shielded hatred never before seen in history. This exposure is again causing stress, depression, anxiety, and distraction in our lives.
You need to be very specific about why you use social media and how you will use it in your life. Right off the bat most of you could limit the time you spend on social media. But if it is causing your emotions to stir then you really need to review why you are on social media at all. What can you change? How can you limit your time? What parts of people, or organizations, do you need to unfollow to eliminate the negativity in your life. Remove the negativity or stress from your life by shutting down the unnecessary parts of your online life.
We are bombarded by world events when it comes to famine, terrorism, attacks, political unrest. In our connected world, we feel like we have to react or do something. This is not a bad response and these actions across the world are difficult to watch at best. But the reality is we cannot fix every problem. We simply do not have the capacity to help in every situation and the end result is placing unnecessary stress upon ourselves to help in a situation we are not able.
How the Problems Collide
These three problems collide at the point when we experience a world event. Like the bombing in Manchester, stabbing in London, bombs in France. We feel horrible because of these unnecessary and awful events. So we update our Facebook page with a prayerful post. We will changes our profile picture with an overlay of the countries flag. Write a story about how we feel or any other avenue to show we care.
Now to preface, these are awful situations we wish no one had to endure and we want to help in some way. That it good! It is in our basic nature to help and assist. The issue is we cannot help out every where, we cannot assist at various countries across the globe. Thus, the ultimate end result is unnecessary guilt and stress placed upon our own lives because we can’t fix a broken problem on the other side of the world.
The goal is to find an meaningful way to deal with these world event appropriately. It may just be saying a quick prayer to yourself. Writing a quick note, then moving on. If any of these events are causing unnecessary stress or anxiety in your life then you need to move on. You need to find a better way to not let it add to the overall stress in your own life.
Take the first step to a life of freedom and not be chained to the messages this world wants you to believe. Own your Journey and thrive in this life by living life on your terms.
