How To Unleash Impact In Your Life?
Do you long to make a major impact in your life. But feel like you are not living up to your full potential. Unfortunately, this situation is more common than you would like to admit.
The major problem with our inability to make an impact comes down to distractions. We are so distracted with social media, hobbies, suffering, pain, society, expectations, and any of a hundred distractions. We can even be distracted by “good things” like church, exercise, educations, or relaxation. All of these distractions are keeping us from focusing in on a greater work to make an impact. We can be so focused on attempting to create a facade we miss the real work which makes a difference.
This is why you need to be overly diligent in eliminating the distractions in your life. Whether it be clearing out clutter, stop watching the news, turning off your cell phone, or shutting off social media all together. Begin the process of ruthlessly eliminating distractions from your life. One way to begin this process is to categorize good distractions and bad categories. With the bad distractions, do what you can to eliminate those distractions immediately. Clear them out as soon as possible.
Bad distractions can be unhealthy relationships, wasted time surfing the internet or social media. A bad distraction can be a hobby, event, or task which is taking up valuable time, but not helping you succeed in your accomplishing your purpose.
With good distractions, it is going to be a little trickier. Take something like church, exercise, or your children’s activities. These activities are generally useful and productive part of your life. But when you go overboard with your commitments; attending every church activity, working out several hours a day, or having your child’s calendar filled with all types of activities. These good distractions can easily become bad ones.
Again, when these activities begin to take away time from your purpose, then it is time to reevaluate their place in your life. Take an honest look at your activities. Then narrow it down to the essentials of what is filling your soul and serving others?
Focus on Good Work
The second step in this process is to begin to focus in on your good work. That thing in your life which is going to create a greater impact. If you can begin to push this work to the top of your focus it will allow you to clear the clutter. This intense focus allows you to eliminate the distractions which are not feeding your impact. You can look through the activities and tasks of your life and see more clearly those distractions which are keeping you from your good work. Focusing on your purpose gives you the power of saying “no.” Which will be an ally in your pursuit of unleashing impact.
When you have found your focus, and eliminated the distractions in your life, then you are in a place to make an incredible impact. And this is the point of a purposeful life. To make a difference in your own life and the lives of others. With few distractions in your life, you have freed up your time to transform your life to make a greater impact on those around you.
Your challenge in this process is keeping your focus on something greater. The distractions in your life are pretty meaningless and not fulfilling to your life. Yet, they will always be there and in the way. Every day you need to commit to living a greater life, to own your journey, and focus in on what really matters. This will unleash your impact and make a difference not only in your own life, but the lives of those around you.
